"Mr. Speaker, I rise this day to help shed light on the escalating crisis in Haiti. There is no doubt that the Haitian people are experiencing some of the most horrific times in modern, civil society," explaining the devastating conditions that require immediate attention Clarke raised the issue of hunger currently raging in Haiti where children are particularly affected and recalled recent United Nations data according to which "four million Haitians are facing "acute food insecurity" and one million are one step away of famine. Noting that the United States is only 700 miles from the coast of Haiti, “[...] and yet, in many ways Haiti has been forgotten. It is urgent that we pay attention." She also noted that the narrative about some immigrants is vicious and racially charged and requires America to pay attention, "...because the Black diaspora has always been a defining component to American Blackness..." calling for more of its colleagues and the administration to come to the aid of the Haitian people, saying she will continue to push for an extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians.
