Haiti - Politic : Colombia excludes sending troops to Haiti

Tuesday April 9, 2024 at the UN before the Security Council, Luis Gilberto Murillo the Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke of the serious crisis in Haiti and declared that the Colombian Government ruled out sending troops or agents to the future mission multinational Support to the National Police of Haiti.

Regarding the future multinational police mission approved by the Security Council and which Kenya has offered to lead, Murillo ruled out the sending of Colombian agents "We do not think that external interventions have worked in the past," adding that his country could welcome Haitian police officers on its soil for training, but for that "we will need the international community to finance it," he declared, referring to the lack of international involvement to commit funds in favor of Haiti.

Finally, he indicated that Colombia was working with the Haitian authorities to see the best way to provide assistance, whether food or otherwise, through specialized agencies.
