Haiti - Politic : The Canadian Ambassador will remain in Haiti despite the rise in violence

Saturday March 23, 2024, on the sidelines of the funeral of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, questioned about the possible closure of the Canadian Embassy in Port-au-Prince, in a context of confrontation Bloody declared that André François Giroux, Ambassador of Canada to Haiti would remain with a reduced team in Haiti despite the increase in violence "We will ensure that our Ambassador is in Haiti. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said Friday that soldiers from Canada's elite special forces unit are currently working with the embassy in Port-au-Prince to assist with "contingency planning," but are not did not provide further details.

According to GAC, there are currently 3,039 Canadians in Haiti registered with the registration service for Canadians abroad. It also said its Emergency Monitoring and Response Center had responded to 245 requests since March 3rd, mainly regarding general travel information and the general security situation.
