Haiti - Kenya : Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary denies the rumors...

Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, denied rumors that certain police officers had chosen to no longer participate in the deployment of the Support Mission in Haiti planned soon...

Speaking after visiting the Machakos County security committee, Kindiki told the media that the status of the Haiti deployment had been delayed by a court case that is resolved.

He said the court noted that they needed an agreement with the Haitian government and that all systems were in place since the agreement was signed a week ago.

Kindiki confirmed that the mission was in the pre-deployment stage and all other programs were in place, including laws on detention, arrests and other coercive measures, as well as standard operating procedures.

He recalled that Kenyan police officers will be part of a multinational security mission in Haiti, alongside many other countries that he did not mention.
