Haiti - Insecurity : A Canadian aid worker, shot and wounded in Port-au-Prince 30/10/2011 14:10:51
Francklin Guerrier a retired lawyer from Montreal and Director of a humanitarian organization Ayiti Dwa Moun, accompanied by a friend, was the victim of an assault by shooting in Port-au-Prince. Francklin Guerrier was wounded in the collarbone while his friend, whose identity was not revealed succumbed to his injuries. Beverley J. Oda, the Minister of International Cooperation of Canada, said in a statement that the Canadian government "offers support to the family of Mr. Guerrier [...] My thoughts and prayers are with the Guerrier family as they recover from this tragic incident [...] I am happy to hear M. Guerrier is in stable condition and I offer condolences to the family of his friend. Our government is working with consular officials to ensure the family receives support in this time of need." According to witnesses, the two men were attacked by people on a motorcycle. The reason for the attack was not immediately clear. HL/ HaitiLibre
