Haiti - Cap-Haitien : Municipal authorities announce radical measures (Video)
Friday January 5, 2024, a working meeting on the environmental situation of the city of Cap-Haïtien was held between municipal authorities, representatives of the Ministry of Public Works (MTPC), Civil Protection, the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) and the Deputy Departmental Delegate.

Following this meeting, municipal authorities met the press to inform the population of the decisions taken to improve and provide solutions after the floods in the municipality.

Among these decisions, the Creation of a "task force" with representatives of the Ministry of Public Works, Environment, Agriculture, DINEPA and Town Hall.

Authorities also announced that they had started the cleanup and that it would continue through the weekend. Subsequently, Allan Louis, Director of the MTPC, announced that it was planned to have the canals cleaned 2 to 3 times per year. He also announced that he had submitted a file to the highest authorities of the Ministry to rehabilitate the city's sanitation system.

Other major measures were announced by the authorities including the removal of all houses built in ravines, on canals, and all those who build their houses on hillsides without authorization, that they will have to move their houses which because the fill and mud of the mountains block the city.

Municipal authorities are warning anyone who had their homes built on the mountainside without permission to make quick arrangements to move them immediately, as authorities are coming upon them.
