Haiti - IHRC : The extension of the mandate of the IHRC under the critics

The mandate of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) ended last Friday, October 21. The Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille, apparently preparing to submit to parliament soon, a document proposing the extension for a duration of one year of the mandate of the IHRC. Some observers see in this extension, the result of pressure from the international community.

If some parliamentarians are against the head of state, for his part is in favor https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3436-haiti-reconstruction-martelly-requests-the-renewal-of-the-ihrc.html In case of renewal, the IHRC should be reoriented and now works within a strict and detailed timetable.

Last Wednesday, the Senator Jean William Jeanty spoke against the extension of the mandate of the IHRC, "How the Commission could achieve in one year the objectives that it has been unable achieve in 18 months ?" asks the Senator, who regrets that more than 80% of funds allocated for the reconstruction of Haiti are given to international organizations rather than state institutions. Consequently, he conditions his vote to a document providing the repatriation of funds of this institution to the Haitian state.

Eddy Labossiere, President of the Association of Haitian Economists also criticizes how the IHRC has been imposed and considers that this is a outdated institution that has never served the interests of the Haitian people.
