Haiti - Security : Important security system deployed for the holiday season

While gangs continue to impose their laws in the capital and in other regions of the country, Divisional Inspector Gary Desrosiers, spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced Wednesday, December 19 that the police presence will be reinforced “in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and in provincial towns as well as at the level of road axes in order to ensure tranquility throughout the national territory.

"Strengthening safety on highways to better protect drivers and pedestrians, strengthening security systems in cities, collecting a set of information that can lead to targeted operations, these are the specific objectives of this strategy," he explained

During the festivities "there will be searches of people (pat-downs) and vehicles, so we request full cooperation in this regard," specifying that checks will also be carried out near banks, with the strengthening of security around the hotels, restaurants and nightclubs.

Gary Desrosiers recalled that several musical groups will perform in Haiti during the holiday season, and meetings have already taken place to guarantee the safety of artists and the public. To achieve all of these objectives, Desrosiers explained that a significant number of police officers from different units will be deployed. PNH armored vehicles will be positioned at strategic points, and foot patrols will ensure a continuous presence."
