Haiti - Dom. Rep. : More than 294,000 Haitians returned to the country, repatriated or volunteers in 5 months

Since the application of Dominican decree 668-22 which provides for the expulsion from Dominican territory of all foreigners in an irregular migratory situation, the number of expulsions of Haitians has increased considerably.

Persistent insecurity, characterized by the expansion of areas under the influence of armed groups, is leading to an increase in the number of internally displaced people. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic has decided to open their border exclusively to trade. However, Haiti has decided to keep its doors closed https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40752-haiti-flash-haiti-keeps-its-door-closed-the-dominican-government-will-not-give-in.html in retaliation to the restrictive measures taken by the Dominican Government https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40698-haiti-flash-partial-reopening-of-the-dominican-border-new-measures-and-an-embargo.html

Furthermore, the Dominican Republic sent military reinforcements to the borders with Haiti https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-40960-icihaiti-border-the-dominican-republic-announces-military-reinforcements.html following an incident between Haitians and Dominican soldiers. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40919-haiti-flash-high-tension-a-group-of-haitians-confront-the-dominican-soldiers-in-ouanaminthe-video.html
