iciHaiti - FLASH : Ouanaminthe border bridge prohibited, under penalty of very heavy fines

In a joint note, the Departmental Delegation of the North-East, the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Ouanaminthe Town Hall inform the public in general and both formal and informal merchants in particular that it is formally prohibited to access the Border Bridge and the border strip of the Commune of Ouanaminthe for the purpose of crossing the Border and returning with goods from November 14, 2023.

Consequently, people and drivers of all types of vehicles caught throughout the Municipality of Ouanaminthe in flagrante delicto with goods of any nature whatsoever from the Dominican Republic will be arrested and punished according to Haitian smuggling laws.

The seized goods will be destroyed, distributed or sold at public auction and the confiscated vehicles will be returned to the owners upon presentation of the legal documents of the said vehicles, after having paid into the treasury of the Ouanaminthe Town Hall fines from fifty thousand (50,000.00) to five hundred thousand (500,000.00) gourdes, according to the classification which will be made by the signatories (Moïse Charles-Pierre, Departmental Delegate, Lesly Thégène, Departmental Director of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Luma Démétrius, Mayor of Ouanaminthe and Océcité Destiné, Deputy Mayor).
