Haiti - Border : The FAO Representative calls for a diplomatic solution between the DR and Haiti
Rodrigo Castañeda, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), said he hoped that the Dominican Republic and Haiti will find a diplomatic solution for the benefit of agriculture and security food of the two Nations.

Castañeda said this in reference to the closure of the Haitian border despite a partial reopening of the Dominican border resulting in the cessation of binational trade which affected traders on both sides of the border but also producers on the Dominican side.

Castañeda also addressed the issue of global warming and stressed that the fight against this phenomenon will require a transformation of the agri-food systems responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases. He stressed the need to adopt sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices to reduce agriculture's contribution to climate change.
