Haiti - Education : Richmond shares its expertise with the Haitian communities
The City of Richmond (Quebec, Canada) welcomed Thursday a Haitian delegation for a stay of training in land use planning, in order to share its expertise and help the communities hard hit by the earthquake of January 2010 to provide essential services to their people.

"We are very happy to welcome the delegation of the region of des Palmes and to be able to share with them our expertise in land use planning," stated Marc-André Martel, Mayor of the City of Richmond.

The delegation, composed of six employees of the Agency Technical Intercommunal des Palmes (ATIP), established in order to strengthen the capacity of communities in urban and regional planning, is visiting Canada since October 10 and visited Richmond on Thursday, October 20.

The day began with a brief formal ceremony during which the delegates from Haiti have received a souvenir gift in slate, created by the artist Sandra Picken-Roberts. Subsequently, after a visit to the City Hall and of its staff, the municipal inspector and town planner, Ali Ayachi, provided training to members of the ATIP, as regards the legal and regulatory aspects related to urban planning and land use planning of the municipality. He also presented the various facets of his work of inspector especially when visiting a site.

The members of the Haitian delegation took advantage of their stay in Richmond to visit, among others, the station Adam, a model of innovation in water managementof the St. Francis River. Such as Quebec, the management of the flow of water is a regular and permanent challenge in Haiti.
