Haiti - Dom. Rep. : Nearly 70,000 Haitians returning to the country, repatriated or voluntarily in September 2023

Since the application of Decree 668-22 which provides for the expulsion from Dominican territory of all foreigners in an irregular migratory situation, the number of expulsions of Haitians has increased considerably.

The month of September falls within a tense context between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, resulting from the construction of an agricultural irrigation canal in Haiti with a water intake on the Massacre River, which has revived historical disputes between the two nations and caused the closure of all borders on the Dominican side and the suspension of delivery of Dominican visas to Haitians https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40503-haiti-flash-dr-closes-its-land-sea-and-air-borders-with-haiti-goods-and-passengers.html
