Haiti - Education : Sophia Martelly distributes milk in schools
The First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Sophia Martelly, distributed, yesterday morning, milk at a hundred students of the national schools République de l’Equateur,Republic of Ecuador, in Delmas 41, and Colbert Lochard, at Bois-Verna. She was accompanied by the Coordinator of the National School Feeding Programme (PNCS), Ms. Patricia Martin.

The initiative was warmly welcomed by parents and teachers who see through this approach, a commitment of the First Lady to promote the welfare of children, who, their sides, were very satisfied.

This measure is part of the PNCS efforts in order to guarantee to the students at least one daily meal. Ms. Martelly believes that it is important to to join humanitarian contributions to the activities pursued in favor of education. "As the problem of transportation of school children is crucial, that of their diet should also be taken into account," she said.

For some teachers in the schools benefiting from the program, the initiative of the First Lady clearly reflects her sense of humanity, generosity and civic duty. Her presence, they argue, demonstrates the importance that she attaches also to the community and youth education. Ms. Sophia Martelly believes that children, if they are supervised, will be the real shapers of development of Haiti.
