Haiti - Security : Opening ceremony of the Civil Prison of Petit-Goâve

At the beginning of the week, under the instruction of the Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian National Police, Mr. Frantz Elbé, the Director of the Prison Administration, Inspector General (IG) Pierre René François, carried out the ceremony opening of the Civil Prison of Petit-Goâve.

The opening ceremony of the Civil Prison of Petit-Goâve took place in the presence of police officers of all ranks and grades, judicial authorities, and other personalities.

The construction of this international standard prison was launched in 2011 and completed in 2023, with the support of the American government, through the "Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement" (INL). Stressing that the keys were handed over to Commander-in-Chief Frantz Elbé, during a ceremony held at the DGPNH, on Wednesday August 30, 2023.

In his speech for the occasion, IG François, of the Directorate of Prison Administration, demonstrated the desire of the PNH High Command to create detention conditions that meet international standards.

As for the Police Commissioner Jean Sony Joseph Louidor, responsible for the said prison, he would like to congratulate the construction of this prison center which will play its role in the Jurisdiction of Petit-Goâve, by serving as a space for social reintegration for prisoners .

Should be noted that this prison can accommodate a total of 292 inmates and is equipped with dormitories, medical rooms, among others.
