iciHaiti - Politic : 54th anniversary of CONATEL

Wednesday September 27, 2023, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry participated in the celebration of the 54th anniversary of the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) in the presence of Rosemond Pradel Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, Jose Jean-Baptiste, Director General of CONATEL and representatives of international organizations.

In his intervention, the Prime Minister, Henry, emphasized the role of Conatel as arbiter : "Conatel must validly play its role as arbiter with regard to the imbalance which could hamper the market price, taking into account takes into account the poor quality of service that users experience."

Furthermore, the Prime Minister welcomed the fact that the Government no longer gives money to team leaders but preferably uses electronic money to pay funds directly to beneficiaries of social programs. A technology which, according to Henry, "makes it possible to eliminate corruption, facilitate accountability and ensure that it is indeed the poorest who benefit from the efforts of the State."

At the end of this celebration, the General Director of Conatel, Mr. Jose Jean Baptiste, highlighted the great exploits of this institution in the past. He expressed his pride in participating in the modernization and technological advances of the telecommunications sector in Haiti. He also took the opportunity to take stock of Conatel's various works such as the Haiti digital acceleration project, electronic signature and cyber security. The Director General believes that with the support of the Government, he will connect Haiti to broadband and integrate the digital economy.
