Haiti - Economy : The Ministry meets the Haitian Chambers of Commerce on the Border Conflict

Ricardin Saint-Jean, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, organized this week an important meeting with representatives of the various Chambers of Commerce in Haiti with a view to discussing and jointly finding new strategies to meet the immediate needs of the population after the total closure of the border since Friday September 15, 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40503-haiti-flash-dr-closes-its-land-sea-and-air-borders-with-haiti-goods-and-passengers.html by the Dominicans following the "canal crisis" affecting binational trade with the neighboring Republic.

During this meeting, Minister Ricardin Saint-Jean expressed the will and commitment of the Government in common agreement with the private sector to find mechanisms capable of absorbing in the very short term the consequences of this crisis and also to reflect on a set of measures that can provide lasting solutions in order to put the country on the real path to long-term food self-sufficiency.

The various Chambers present agreed to form a working group with a view to exploring the related issues in greater depth and, above all, supporting the State in the formulation and implementation of elements of a solution that meet the requirements of the moment.

The next meeting is set for Thursday, October 5 where the main importers in Haiti will be present.
