Haiti - Humanitarian : WFP prepares its response to storm Franklin
As Tropical Storm Franklin, the fourth named storm of the season to form in four days, is expected to hit southern Haiti on Wednesday, August 23, United Nations World Food Program (WFP) emergency response teams) have pre-positioned food stocks and are preparing emergency aid for the most vulnerable communities in the path of the storm.

In Haiti, WFP is working with the Direction Générale de la Protection Civile (DGPC) to plan for potential humanitarian food needs and has pre-positioned 120 tons of food in a newly built base of operations in Miragoâne. WFP is also pre-positioning food stocks for potential use in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien. WFP stands ready to provide dry food rations and cash assistance to up to 100,000 people if needed.

"Haiti is among the most vulnerable countries in the world when it comes to the effects of extreme weather. We know from experience how dangerous storms can have a devastating effect on Haitians’ lives and livelihoods. During emergencies, every minute counts, so our team is working around the clock to prepare for Tropical Storm Franklin," said Jean-Martin Bauer, Country Director for WFP in Haiti.

The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), run by WFP, has also been put on standby to support any emergency response by transporting humanitarian responders, medical equipment, water and other essential humanitarian supplies. to communities in need.

As the humanitarian community's leading logistics expert, WFP stands ready to play a leading role in the frontline response to climate-related disasters.
