Haiti - FLASH : More than 30 dead in the attacks in Carrefour-Feuilles

In Carrefour-Feuilles, since the beginning of the week, repeated attacks by members of the Grande Ravine gang led by Renel Destina alias "Ti Lapli", aiming to take control of the neighborhood, have caused the departure of more than 5,000 people, women, children to and elderly, according to Jerry Chandler, Director General of Civil Protection (DPC).

They left Carrefour-Feuilles on foot, on motorbikes or crammed into various vehicles, some with mattresses on their heads or various goods on the roof of a vehicle, trying to take away some personal belongings...

The men of "Ti Lapli" loot and burn houses. More than 30 people were killed, more than a dozen injured and women and girls raped... We deplore the deaths of 2 police officers and the disappearance of 4 people according to the provisional report of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH), according to the testimonies of parents and relatives of the victims, said Pierre Espérance, the Executive Director of RNDDH.

These thousands of displaced people have found refuge in several sites, including the Gymnasium Vincent and the premises of the National School of the Republic of Brazil or in a sports center and sometimes in the street, with or without a tent for shelter.

The authorities have announced that they have started distributing hot meals and drinking water to displaced families. Confirmed Chandler specifying that "the Economic and Social Assistance Fund is committed to providing more than 3,000 hot meals daily in the accommodation sites. While the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) mobilizes 2 tank trucks with a capacity of 4 thousand gallons of chlorinated water for the victims."
