Haiti - DR : The two countries seek to strengthen their trade with Europe and Argentina 08/06/2023 10:19:20
Through two business missions: a tour in different European countries and the other in Argentina, these Haitian and Dominican businessmen and business institutions have held several meetings in order to strengthen commercial ties and improve institutional efficiency, contributing to the advancement of their private sectors. The main objective of the tour in Europe, organized by Caribbean Export, was to reactivate business opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises of the two countries of the island that have the potential to export to the European Union. The tour took the delegations to Paris (France); Madrid (Spain) and Berlin (Germany). They not only sought to restore business ties, but also explored best practices to support private sector development in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, particularly in times of economic downturn. The two delegations met with leading organizations such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Court of Arbitration (ICA), Business France, the Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and the Chambers of Commerce and industry in Germany. These interactions provided valuable information and experience on how to improve the services offered by the chambers of commerce in both countries. By participating in this trade mission, Haitian and Dominican businessmen had the opportunity to explore new services, improve their functionality and sustainability and increase the quality and quantity of services provided to their members. In addition, the mission facilitated better access to the lucrative EU market, contributing to the growth and development of the private sectors in both countries. During their stay in Argentina, Haitians and Dominicans coordinated by Caribbean Export, undertook a mission on best practices in Buenos Aires. The objective of this mission was to learn from Argentina's experiences in supporting the export of its services industry globally, particularly in the innovation and technology sector. During their mission, the delegations interacted with the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services and other private sector support institutions, sharing best practices and exploring operational and policy frameworks that have supported the Argentine private sector. In addition, the island's delegations collaborated with the Argentinian Chamber of Electronic Commerce to learn more about the e-commerce programs implemented after the Covid-19 pandemic. These initiatives were aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the exporting private sector. Participating chambers of commerce from Haiti and the Dominican Republic gained valuable insights during these missions, enabling them to improve their services, build their technical capacities and strengthen inter-agency cooperation ties beyond borders. By adopting the best practices of successful businesses in Europe and Argentina, trade support organizations are poised to create a favorable environment for investment, support the development and performance of their members, and contribute to national economic development of both countries. These collaborative efforts represent an important step towards strengthening the bilateral partnership between the private sectors of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. By sharing knowledge and implementing best practices, Chambers of Commerce will foster a thriving business environment, improve their services and create opportunities for growth and success for their members.
