According to local Civil Protection authorities, following the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in the morning https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39708-haiti-flash-strong-earthquake-near-jeremie-mag-55-update-8h29.html in the Grand'Anse region, several aftershocks were felt throughout the department causing damage, casualties and causing widespread panic among the population.

In Jérémie in the Sainte-Hélène neighborhood, two houses collapsed causing the death of 4 people (including an 8-year-old girl). Two schools were damaged College Sacré Coeur in Jérémie and the other in Moron.

RN#7 is blocked at Morne Rampe, between Jérémie and Les Cayes.

The emergency services evacuated the families from the rubble and according to the first estimates 37 injured were recorded in the department. In this first interim report, the missing persons have not been registered.
