Haiti - Environment : Hydrological prospecting mission in the Northeast
A delegation from the Ministry of the Environment led by Yves Junior Vancol, the Director of the National Institute of Water Resources (INARHY) accompanied by Mrs. Ernine Theard, technical manager of this department, Vladimir Chery and Mrs. Roselyne Fernand Pierre two other technical managers of the National Observatory on the Quality of the Environment and Vulnerability (ONQEV), carried out a hydrogeological prospecting mission in the North-East department, particularly in the commune of Terrier Rouge-locality of Paulette.

This mission is part of the Community Driven Development (CDD) project led by the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) which has officially sent a request for the installation of a Pumping System for solar-powered water for the benefit of the local population in general and the Peasant Movement for the Development of Paulette (MOPADEP) in particular.

This community movement, which works in the agricultural sector, currently has two hectares of land cultivated with sweet and hot peppers and four hectares of land with sweet potatoes and all the planted area is under drip irrigation. MOPADEP is also implementing another pomegranate production project still at Terrier Rouge. It is with this in mind that James Cadet, the Minister of the Environment, has commissioned this prospecting mission, to see the technical feasibility of the request.

It was also an opportunity for members of the Ministry's delegation to visit the Desmond Incubator Center in Ouanaminthe, where it also carried out a similar Assessment. The Desmond Center is currently facing a water shortage reducing its ability to effectively water the plants. This diagnosis, carried out in collaboration with the Departmental Director of the North-East, Agronomist Luckin Charles, technicians and other personnel from the departmental management, should enable the Ministry to provide a lasting response to the proper functioning of the center.
