Haiti - Justice : Designation of the Representative of Civil Society at the CSPJ

Renan Hedouville, Protector of the Citizen informs for all practical purposes, of the name of the Representative of Civil Society to sit as a member of the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ). This is Me Arnel Rémy, Lawyer at the Bar of Port-au-Prince and Executive Director of the Collective of Lawyers for the Defense of Human Rights (CADDHO).

In reference to article 13 (paragraphs) of the organic law of the Citizen Protection Office (OPC), the name of Me Arnel Rémy was on the list of three personalities who won the elections organized on November 8, 2022 by human rights organizations. The official results of these elections were transmitted to the OPC in order to appoint one of them, according to the prerogatives of the Public Protector.

However, in a letter addressed to Me Jean Joseph Lebrun President of the Council, 15 human rights organizations challenge the appointment of Me Arnel Rémy by the OPC, claiming not to have taken part in this process.
