Haiti - Weather : Preliminary forecasts for the 2023 hurricane season

National Hurricane Center :

According to the National Hurricane Center, based on a 30-year climate period (1991 to 2020), an average Atlantic hurricane season that officially begins June 1st and ends November 30, 2023 averages 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. In the past, the NHC has issued a 5-day outlook, but this year the tropical forecast will be extended to 7 days to give more advanced warning of potential tropical storms.

NC State University :

NC State University forecasters forecast 11 to 15 named storms this season, with 6 to 8 reaching hurricane strength and 2 to 3 becoming major hurricanes.

Colorado State University :

Forecasters from Colorado State University, also known for their forecasts, predict a below-normal season with 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes.

AccuWeather :

AccuWeather forecasters predict a less active season than the majority of seasons since 1995 and could feature a similar number of storms as 2022. Current projections indicate that the 2023 season will be near the historical average with 11 to 15 storms named. 4-8 of these storms are expected to reach hurricane strength, with 1-3 of these hurricanes reaching major hurricane status.

NOAA :

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will release its forecast for the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season May 25 at 11:00 a.m.

Let's recall that on average, the first named storm usually forms between mid-June and late June. The first hurricane of the season forms in early to mid-August. The first major hurricane usually forms between late August and early September, at the peak of hurricane season.
