Haiti - FLASH : Judge Jean Wilner Morin under a deluge of bullets

Wednesday, May 17, 2023 around noon on the Route de Frères not far from One Stop Market (commune of Pétion ville), two individuals traveling on a motorcycle opened fire with automatic weapons on the armored Toyota Prado in which was the anti-corruption investigating judge Jean Wilner Morin (54) and his driver.

13 projectile impacts were noted by the scientific police on the armored vehicle, whose occupants came out safe and sound.

Police officers from the Vivy Mitchell police station arrived quickly on the scene and allowed the magistrate to leave the area safely.

Remember that Judge Wilner Morin is investigating several "sensitive" corruption cases, including that of Patrick Noramé, former Director General of the Office for the Monetization of Development Aid Programs (BMPAD) under international arrest warrant https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39179-haiti-news-zapping.html , that of Romel Bell, the former Director General of the General Administration of Customs (AGD) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39236-haiti-flash-the-current-director-general-of-customs-prohibits-leaving-the-territory.html , as well as that of Édwine Tonton, Director of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39396-haiti-news-zapping.html . Kesner Normil, the interim executive mayor of Pétion-ville, was also to be heard that same day by Judge Morin.

The Associations of Magistrates strongly condemn this attack.
