Haiti - FLASH : Haitian migrants intercepted at sea ARE NO LONGER ELIGIBLE for the conditional stay program (official)

Last Thursday, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and US State Department announced sweeping new measures to further reduce irregular migration, including irregular maritime migration. These measures https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39437-haiti-flash-new-radical-us-measures-to-reduce-illegal-migration-at-the-border.html are based on the success of recent processes that have significantly reduced illegal migration through a combination of expanded legal pathways and rapid repatriations and deportation for those who do not use these legal pathways.

The announcement made it clear that the United States, in coordination with its regional partners, has significantly increased the number of weekly repatriation flights per week which will double or triple for some countries.

With this increase in deportation flights, migrants crossing the US border without proper documentation for legal admission, including those attempting to reach the US by sea who do not qualify for assistance or protection, should expect to be promptly deported.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also rendered ineligible for the Conditional Stay Program Cubans and Haitians who attempt to illegally migrate to the United States. by sea after April 27, 2023.

"This announcement provides an important clarification for interdictions at sea. Anyone barred at sea while attempting to enter the United States irregularly will no longer be eligible for Conditional Humanitarian Immigration processes," the Cons -Admiral Brendan C. McPherson, Director of the Homeland Security Task Force SouthEast and Commander of the 7th District of the United States Coast Guard.
