Haiti - CARICOM : Follow-up meeting of the mission in Haiti

On Sunday March 5, Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met under the chairmanship of Philip Davis, Prime Minister of the Bahamas and President of CARICOM. They received a report from Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who led a one-day CARICOM Special Mission to Haiti on February 27 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38961-haiti-politique-mission-eclair-de-la-caricom-en-haiti.html

The mission met with a wide range of Haitian stakeholders to hear their views on the way forward towards a Haitian-led solution and demonstrate CARICOM solidarity with Haiti. The leaders agreed that there should be a follow-up meeting with the stakeholders to chart the way towards building consensus to bring peace and stability to the country.

The Heads of Government have agreed to support the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in its efforts in its fight against armed gangs. The Community will focus on training the PNH and providing humanitarian assistance to the PNH and Haitian society in general, given the difficult humanitarian and security situation in Haiti.

In recognition of shared historical experiences and the strong Afro-Caribbean relationship, the CARICOM Heads of Government also agreed to seek the support of African countries for Haiti and to work with the Governments of Canada and the United States as well as with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on ongoing issues and, at the next spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, to approach the two international financial institutions to determine the assistance that they could bring to Haiti.

Let's recall that the member countries of CARICOM have excluded the sending of troops to Haiti because of the refusal of Canada and the United States to lead this mission. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38886-haiti-flash-caricom-members-exclude-sending-troops-to-haiti.html
