Haiti - Taiwan : Donation of 25 new solar-powered water pumping systems

James Cadet, the Minister of the Environment accompanied by Yves Junior Vancol, Director of Water Resources, Raoul Vital, Director of the National Observatory for Environmental Quality and Vulnerability (ONQEV) and the Engineer Vladimir Chery, executive of ONQEV, held a working session with a Taiwanese delegation led by Wen-Jiamn KU, Ambassador to Haiti of Taiwan (Republic of China) around the progress of the project "Design, supply, installation and the implementation of the donation of 25 new water pumping systems by solar energy".

Minister Cadet took the opportunity to thank the Republic of China/Taiwan for its involvement in Haiti's development efforts "The donation of 25 solar-powered pumps comes at a time when the country really needs them, because they will be very useful in communities with high agricultural potential," said the Minister. "More than twenty municipalities throughout the country have requested from the Ministry the installation of solar-powered pumps and thanks to these 25 new solar-powered water pumping systems, the Ministry will have the opportunity to satisfy its communities and promote sustainable development" concluded the Minister

For his part, Raoul Vital pleaded in favor of greater responsibility of the Ministry in the implementation of the project which, according to him, will facilitate the monitoring and maintenance of each installation.

Ambassador Wen-Jiann KU of Taiwan (Republic of China) in Haiti reaffirmed the will of his country to continue to work alongside Haiti. KU said he was in favor of taking into account the position expressed by the representative of ONQEV in the execution of the project, in agreement with the Haitian technicians and underlined "The materials provided by the Taiwanese Government are of high quality, large capacities and can supply more than a hundred families per hour."

Since the launch of the project, more than twenty solar-powered water pumping systems have already been installed in several municipalities in the departments of the West, North-East, North and Grand-Goâve. Its 25 new will be added to the list of the 100 facilities project funded by the Taiwanese government.
