Haiti - Security : PRESS Vests, helmets, gas masks for journalists

UNESCO handed over 30 safety equipment kits (PRESS vests, helmets and gas masks) to journalists from 4 media organizations : Online Media Collective (CMEL), the Haitian Association of Online Media (AHML), the National Online Media Network (RENAMEL) and the Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH).

With this gesture, UNESCO wants to fight against disinformation by encouraging journalists to identify themselves very clearly in order to go to the source and bring quality information to the public. It is also a concrete way to promote the safety of journalists considering that in 2022, 7 journalists were killed in the exercise of their function in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38799-haiti-flash-haiti-3rd-in-the-world-ranking-of-the-number-of-journalists-killed-2022-report.html

In addition, UNESCO donates a Mobile Radio Kit to community radios through the Society for Animation and Social Communication (SAKS). This kit intended for all community radios will allow them to remain on the air in the event of natural or other disasters.
