Haiti - Turks and Caicos Islands : Issuance of new visas for Haitians suspended for 6 months

Since January 11, 2023, Haitians who want to go to the Turks and Caicos Islands can no longer obtain a visa. A decision announced by the Governor, Nigel Dakin, during a cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's office in Providenciales.

"During this meeting, the cabinet noted the impact of the moratorium on the issuance of new visas to Haitian nationals and approved the implementation of a moratorium on the issuance of all visas to Haitian citizens entering the Turks Islands. and Caicos for six months, starting January 11, 2023," said a statement released on January 15. This measure will be reassessed in 6 months.

Note that visa applications submitted before January 11, 2023 will be honored and processed in the usual way, but no new applications will be accepted after this date and for the next 6 months. It is not specified whether Haitians holding an American visa can enter the island whenever they wish...

For Arlington Musgrove, the Minister of Immigration, this measure was taken among other things : to protect the population of the islands in the face of the increase in the number of irregular migrants of Haitian origin who attempted to enter the territory illegally in 2022 ; the upsurge in violent crime in Haiti ; the increase in imported communicable and infectious diseases ; growing insecurity on the islands and the hiring of unauthorized illegal immigrants to work in the Turks and Caicos Islands in violation of immigration laws.
