Haiti - FLASH : 82 police officers in prison

Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers, Spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) provided an update on a set of files being processed at the level of the General Inspectorate of the PNH.

82 police officers have been imprisoned on the orders of justice in various penitentiary centers of the country specified Garry Desrosiers underlining that 7 of these police officers are already condemned.

The IGPNH also recommended the dismissal of the police officer Jean Josué Clotaire alias "Kondagana" of the 20th promotion and also a member of the group "Barikad Crew", accused of having assassinated Vertil Élie in Canapé-Vert on Wednesday January 26, 2022.

Garry Desrosiers revealed that the General Inspectorate of the PNH was working with the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) on other cases of arms and ammunition trafficking in which police officers are involved.

In addition, Desrosiers indicated that the IGPNH had sent its investigation report on the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse to the Ministry of Justice for the necessary follow-up.

Regarding the partial assessment of the actions of the PNH (September to November) across all the police jurisdictions of the country, Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers declared that at least 40 bandits were fatally injured in exchanges of fire with the police; more than a dozen weapons and ammunition were seized and more than 1,550 bandits were arrested.

At the level of the Office for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS) an entity of the DCPJ, 27.276 kg of marijuana, 1.2 kg of cocaine and more than 30,000 US dollars were seized.
