Haiti - TPS : Statement by Democratic Senator Edward J. Markey

Tuesday, December 6, following the announcement the previous day by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of the extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians in the United States for an additional 18 months https://www.haitilibre.com/article-38303-haiti-flash-the-biden-administration-extends-and-redesigns-the-tps-of-haiti-for-18-months.html , Democratic Senator Edward J. Markey (Massachusetts), Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement :

"I applaud the Biden administration for heeding our calls to extend and redesignate Temporary Protected Status for Haitians living in the United States. This decision affords TPS recipients the opportunity to continue being active members of their communities, supporting their families and bolstering our economy as essential workers, and contributing to the strength and vibrancy of our nation. As the island continues to confront dangerous political unrest, gang violence, and public health crises, it’s our duty to support newly arrived Haitians and their families while urging stability on the ground in Haiti."

Let's recall that last October, Senator Markey in a letter to the Biden administration called with 15 of his colleagues to extend and redesignate the TPS for Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37989-haiti-usa-senators-request-the-extension-and-redesignation-of-the-tps.html
