On Sunday, December 4th, 2022, the Cuban Medical Brigade celebrated 24 years of uninterrupted work in Haiti amid political challenges, natural disasters, instability and insecurity, continuing with the same uninterrupted dedication.

Since December 4, 1998 when the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, sent a first contingent of 100 health professionals to Haiti. More than 15,000 Cuban cooperators took turns in the Cuban Medical Brigade to carry out more than 35 million consultations, 194,241 deliveries, some 660,000 surgical interventions, in addition to rehabilitating more than 206,000 disabled patients.

In 2001 they began a collaboration with the University of Medicine created by former President Aristide, to which professors who also worked as doctors were sent, and in 2005 Operation Miracle began, which improved or restored the vision of some 73,404 Haitians.

During the 2010 earthquake, the cholera epidemic that followed, the Covid-19 pandemic, floods, hurricanes, the most vulnerable always had Cuban doctors by their side "In all circumstances, our work has been decisive in mastering complex health problems" recalled Elizabeth Segura, Deputy Head of Mission, emphasizing "the most disadvantaged will always be able to find encouragement, hope and the conviction that a better world is possible with Cuban doctors. »

Currently, Cuban doctors and specialists are present in Haiti in 18 referral community hospitals, various health centers, 19 rehabilitation rooms and two departmental hospitals.
