On Saturday evening, December 3rd, 2022, officials from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office informed the Miami area that a suspicious boat overloaded with migrants appeared to be in trouble off Lake Worth.

The U.S. Coast Guard's "Rollin' Fritch" rushed to the scene and the crew rescued and transshipped 79 illegally-migrated Haitian migrants, who were traveling aboard an overloaded 30 ft sailboat in poor condition that was taking on water…

"Smugglers do not care whether your loved ones live or die," said Coast Guard District 7 Lt. J.G. Nicholas Fujimoto. "Don’t waste your hard-earned money on smugglers and illegal voyages..."

US authorities said once aboard the Coast Guard vessel, the 79 migrants received basic food, water and medical care before being handed over to Bahamian authorities.

According to the statistics of the Guard were intercepted:

7,175 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2022

1,527 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2021

418 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2020

932 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2019

609 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2018

419 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2017
