Haiti - Dajabón : The border with Haiti closed for a sixth day
Friday, binational market day, the border on the Haitian side remained closed for a sixth consecutive day.

The binational market could not function because the border crossing was closed, despite the fact that calm reigned this morning after yesterday's incidents where Haitians threw stones at the Dominican gate.

However, the situation remains tense and explosive between groups of Haitians who favor the opening of the border, while others prevent it by force, creating an unstable climate...

For their part, the soldiers of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront) and other Dominican organizations maintain strict surveillance to maintain security.

Santiago Riverón, the mayor of Dajabón, confirmed the closure of the market and accused sectors of Haiti of having created a crisis to prevent the normalization of activities.

Riveron said protest groups are funded by members of Haiti's private sector to maintain tension and prevent favorable conditions for the normalization of business activities. The mayor mentioned a former Haitian senator (without citing a name) who would support the protesters, while specifying that there are many Haitians, merchants and consumers who want the border to be open and the binational market to work again.

Note that the binational markets Elías Piña / Belladère and Pedernales / Anse-à-Pitres functioned normally on Friday and Haitians and Dominicans were able to sell or stock up on various products in peace...
