Haiti - 216th Vertières : Message from PM Ariel Henry (Video, ceremony)

"I have just laid a wreath of flowers to salute the memory of the heroes of Vertières who, on this day bringing back the 219th anniversary of this decisive battle, remind us of the imperative obligation to continue to work together for the well-being of our beloved Haiti.

The time has come for the sons and daughters of the nation, like the heroes of Vertières, to agree to think, say and act in the interest of the common Nation.

The veil of solidarity, dialogue and living together is torn because of our internal quarrels. Let's unite to give back to our dear Haiti its pride, its glory, while advocating the ideal of change so much advocated by the fathers of the Fatherland.

It is with pride that we find ourselves here, at the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Haiti, to commemorate the day of the victory of the Battle of Vertières, an important event in our history and that of humanity.

May this fine example of our ancestors and their prowess inspire us and help us to recover and rebuild our country."

Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry
