Haiti - Security : The Armed Forces of Central America remain on alert faced the insecurity in Haiti

In the statement of the 47th regular meeting of the Superior Council of the Conference of Central American Armed Forces (CFAC), which ended last week, the Armed Forces of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic have agreed to remain alert faced the insecurity and instability in Haiti.

In this document, the military leaders of the region reiterate their commitment to continue to fight against drug trafficking, organized crime, intra-border crimes, smuggling and irregular migration.

Defense Minister Carlos Díaz Morfa, highlighted the success of the Comprehensive Plan to Combat Terrorism, Organized Crime and Related Activities, thanks to which in the region over the past six years, some 116,344 people have been arrested for trafficking drugs and 405 tons of narcotics were seized as well as 191 planes, 3,853 naval transports, 47,345 land vehicles, 23,186 firearms, 692,664 ammunition and 147,106 homemade bombs.

During this conference, Lieutenant-General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic, in his capacity as President a.i. transferred the Presidency of the CFAC to the Guatemalan army.

This conference was also attended by general and senior officers from 14 accredited observer countries : Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Spain, United States, France, Mexico, United Kingdom, France and Taiwan.
