Control of roads by gangs, assaults, hijacking of trucks, 7 weeks without fuel and at the end of its reserves, impossibility of customs clearance of raw materials, problem of movement of employees, are some of the reasons given by the company Digneron Manufacturing, forced to lay off without pay more than 1,700 workers

"For more than a month, the country has been experiencing violent episodes characterized by the control of certain axes of the capital by gangs. This situation makes any economic activity impossible. Digneron Manufacturing S.A. has done, within the limits of its means, everything possible to maintain its activities guaranteeing employment and income to its more than 1,700 workers," writes Alain Villard, the General Diector of Digneron Manufacturing at the Ministry of Labour.

A decision that adds to the availability of employees of other companies in the textile sector: Palm Apparel S.A (1,100 employees), Diquini Manufacturing S.A (450 employees), the Haitian subsidiary S&H Global of the South Korean textile group Sae-A ( 4,000 workers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37292-haiti-textile-subcontracting-s-h-global-will-cut-4-000-jobs.html or Go-Haiti which had to lay off more than 800 workers and permanently close its doors just like 3 other companies in Ounaminthe.

Dominique St Eloi, President of the National Coordination of Haitian Workers (CNOHA) estimates that 15 of the 32 companies of the National Company of Industrial Parks (SONAPI) could close their doors. (Horizon, a Dominican pants company, Valdor Apparel and WILL Best Haitian S.A, a clothing production store, are on the verge of closure.)

All these companies and others are victims of the crisis. The CNOHA estimates that nearly 20,000 workers will lose their jobs in 2022 out of the estimated 50,000 workers in the textile subcontracting sector...

Should be noted that the textile sector is not the only one to be affected and that many companies and trade are reducing the number of their employees : Delimart, Universal Motors, Auto Plaza among many others…
