In response to the rapid and dramatic increase in statistics concerning Cholera (nearly 3,500 suspected cases and 89 deaths reported since October 2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38028-haiti-cholera-6-departments-affected-nearly-3-500-suspected-cases-and-89-deaths-reported.html partial assessment), the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) in collaboration with the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health started community mobilization to help the population affected by cholera in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince.

Early this Friday, October 28, municipal teams and the local Civil Protection committees of Cité Soleil, Varreux and Delmas were hard at work in several neighborhoods where the prevalence of cholera is high, particularly in certain neighborhoods of Cité Soleil. .

With the support of the Office of Humanitarian Aid (BHA) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti), these awareness-raising and water treatment activities were initiated in order to slow down the chain of transmission of cholera, especially in neighborhoods that have difficulty accessing drinking water.

Furthermore, in view of the significant increase in the number of cases in the country, the national disaster risk management system is in the process of determining effective modalities for extending awareness-raising and distribution activities to the national level in order to to provide assistance and protection to the entire population.

TheCivil Protection encourages the entire population to apply safety instructions in the face of this considerable increase in cholera cases.
