Haiti - Crisis : Important meeting of the PM with a high-level American delegation

On Wednesday October 12, 2022, Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry, accompanied by Jean Victor Généus the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other collaborators, received, behind closed doors, a high-level American delegation led by Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and composed, among others, of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Director of the International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement, the Counselor for Hemispheric Affairs, the Deputy Military Commander of Southcom, the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States of America in Haiti as well as senior advisers and staff from the White House, of the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

This meeting was an opportunity to discuss several topics related to the current situation and in particular the humanitarian crisis and the issue of security.

Nichols tweeted, "The U.S. remains a steadfast partner of the Haitian people & will continue to support Haiti in this critical time. I met with Haiti's Government leaders, including Ariel Henry, to reaffirm our commitment to help address the cholera epidemic & insecurity impeding that response.The time has come for political leaders in Haiti to put aside their differences to find a path toward sustainable peace..."
