Haiti - Demonstrations : The Ministry condemns the attacks and looting of schools

The Ministry of National Education (MENFP) denounces and condemns the attacks and looting of schools and universities which are public property and calls for the protection of infrastructure, equipment and school archives.

In addition, the MENFP condemns the attack on several school canteen food warehouses which will affect tens of thousands of students https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37657-haiti-gonaives-protesters-loot-caritas-and-wfp-warehouses.html

After several attacks against schools in recent days https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37665-haiti-flash-the-fever-of-looting-seizes-the-demonstrators.html , the Ministry has launched a call to protect educational institutions.

"The school, whether public, private, congregational, priestly or community, is the temple of knowledge for the formation of our children, which symbolizes the future of the country. The Ministry emphasizes that schools and universities are places of learning, safety and peace for our children and young people. Schools are also spaces that serve as temporary shelters in the event of major natural hazards, such as hurricanes and floods. Therefore, attacking schools endangers and further exposes the lives and futures of the most vulnerable populations."

The Ministry takes this opportunity to express its sympathy to the victims and reaffirm its commitment to support the schools affected, as part of its mission.
