Haiti - FLASH : Two young journalists killed in Cité-Soleil

Sunday, September 11, 2022 in the afternoon, two of the seven journalists who were reporting in Cité Soleil, an area of ​​almost permanent urban fighting between gangs, were killed.

They are online media journalists Frantzsen Charles, a student at SNAC who worked for FS News, and Tayson Lartigue, owner of his online media "Ti Jenn Jounalis".

According to what is known, they were shot and killed by snipers while returning from a report in the Brooklyn neighborhood on a motorcycle. The bodies of the two journalists were taken away by the killers... who burned their bodies (according to rumours) so as not to leave any traces...

Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers Spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) confirmed "We have information that they were murdered", specifying however that the information could not be officially confirmed the bodies not having not been found.

Desrosiers encouraged journalists to be very careful when going to neighborhoods like Cité Soleil, where armed clashes are a daily occurrence...

Let's recall that at least 8 journalists : Vladjimy Legagneur, Rospide Pétion, Néhémie Joseph, Amady John Wesley, Wilgens Louissaint, Lazarre Maxihen, Frantzsen Charles and Tyson Lartigue, have been murdered over the past five years in Haiti.

Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry:

"We are deeply shocked by the news of the assassination of two young journalists: Tayson Latigue and Frantzsen Charles, yesterday Sunday, in Cité-Soleil, in the exercise of their profession. We strongly condemn this barbaric act, while sending our heartfelt thoughts to the families of the victims and their colleagues," Ariel Henry

Emmelie Prophète Milcé, Minister of Communication :

"Emmelie Prophète Milcé, Minister of Communication, learned with dismay of the assassination of journalists, Frantzsen Charles and Tysson Lartigue, on the afternoon of Sunday September 11, 2022, in Cité Soleil. Minister Milcé presents her sympathies to the families of the victims, to the entire corporation and recalls that any attack on journalism is an attack on freedom of expression."
