Haiti - Education : The Single Book, a recommendation dating from 2012

The production of a "single book" for the first two years of the 1st cycle of the fundamental school is not new. Indeed, the "single book" which will be introduced in the 2022-2023 academic year, is part of about thirty recommendations which appear in an official document, titled : "For a National Pact on Education in Haiti", developed in 2012 by the Working Group on Education and Training, and which would outline the official sectoral policy of the Ministry in 2015, according to the Minister of Education Nesmy Manigat.

The works selected for the "Single Book" are part of the Haitian school curriculum for the first two fundamental years throughout the country.

Creole, French, mathematics, experimental sciences and social sciences are the 5 subjects concerned by the "Single Book" which will be distributed free of charge for this first year, throughout the territory to 1,5 million students according to Minister Manigat.

Taking into account the recommendations of the National Pact on Education in Haiti, stipulating on page 173 "...learn in her mother tongue and master the two (2) official languages of the country", the Minister agreed with the publishers having expressed interest in the "Unique Book" so that it could be presented in Creole and in French. "Publishers must respect the unique base of competence of culture and knowledge" firmly supported Nesmy Manigat.
