Monday August 22, 2022 a strong tension reigned at the level in the capital and in several large provincial cities Miragoâne (Nippes), Petit-Goâve, Cayes (South), acmel (South-East) and Cap-Haitien (North), where thousands of protesters took to the streets…

Barricades of burning tires were erected in particular in Delmas, Lalue and Nazon as a sign of protest, others were reported on the road to the airport. On the national road #1 towards Cabaret, threatening individuals prevented any circulation of vehicles and people. National road #7 was blocked near Beaumont. Clashes were reported between demonstrators and those close to power in Delmas and in the provinces.

During this day at least three motorcycles and 4 vehicles were burned and many private cars vandalized.

In Cap-Haitien, thousands of protesters took to the streets under strong police supervision. Former senator Jean-Charles Moïse leader of the radical opposition party "Pitit Desalin" was particularly upset against the banks he accuses of being responsible for the vertiginous rise in the exchange rate declaring "We will burn them all if the exchange rate is not fixed at less than 100 gourdes" also threatening to burn the houses of transfer, rice importers and owners of gas stations and to close the country if necessary.
