Haiti - Internet : Inauguration of a network of Connected Open Spaces in 6 universities of the Great South

Saturday August 12, as part of its special Haiti plan launched jointly with the Ministry of National Education in September 2021, the AUF proceeded to the inauguration of a network of Connected Open Spaces in 6 universities in the Grand South.

The Open Connected Spaces (ECO) are permanently powered by solar energy, high-speed internet and have the capacity to accommodate nearly a hundred students at the same time. In addition to the physical space, a subscription to online scientific and technical databases has been made for students and teachers who will use the spaces.

List of ECOs created in the Great South :

1 - Public University of the South in Les Cayes (UPSAC), Laborde Campus (Cayes, Dept, South)

2 - Public University of Nippes (UPNIP), Campus Berquin (Miragoâne, Dept. Nippes)

3 - Public University of Nippes (UPNIP), Campus Duparc (Miragoâne Dept. Nippes)

4 - Public University of Grand’Anse (UPGA), Château Campus (Jérémie Dept. Grand’Anse)

5 - Notre Dame University of Haiti (UNDH), UDERS of Chalon (Dept. Nippes)

6 - Notre Dame University of Haiti (UNDH), UDERS of Torbeck (South Dept.)

According to Claude Bernard, Deputy Departmental Director of the Ministry of National Education, "these spaces will respond to the problem of isolation of the Great South from the rest of the country due to the security situation."

For the Rector of UPSAC, Edouard Jules "this space will be very useful for the start of the academic year in October [...] A space, in addition to the training of teachers and the distribution of computer equipment, which will revolutionize training within this establishment."

The AUF, through a partnership with the École Supérieure d'Infotronique d'Haïti (ESIH), has also made available to member establishments in the Grear South region a distance learning platform that will be used from the start of the school year. October 2022.

According to Patrick Attié, Director General of ESIH, the future of universities today depends on the appropriation of distance learning tools. This platform meets a set of needs for both students and teachers.
