Haiti - Culture : 1st «International Symposium on Culture hip-hop in Haiti»

Inaugurated in 2002 in Montreal, the symposium on hip-hop culture is the purpose of the Students for the Advancement of Hip Hop Culture at Concordia University. t is dedicated to the exploration of hip-hop culture in all its aspects. The Symposium on hip-hop culture was originally created for and by members of the hip-hop community. Renamed in 2009 "international symposium" he reflects today, the involvement of stakeholders from outside of the Canada. The last symposium was held in Havana from August 17 to 21, 2011 (Simposio Hip-Hop Cubano).

From September 8 to 11, 2011, will be held in Port-au-Prince, the first "International Symposium on Culture hip-hop in Haiti" under the theme "Hip Hop for the other Haiti." The purpose of this event is to create an environment conducive to critical exchanges and debates. It want to be a movement unifying for artisans, amateurs, players and students of this culture in effervescence.

In the current context of Haiti, where more than half the population is under 21 years, hip-hop culture is gaining popularity. This creative Symposium with a potential of training can only have a positive effect over time. The presence of professionals from different backgrounds [Haiti, Canada, United States, France, Argentina, Iraq, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Algeria, Barbados, St. Vincent, Mali] will generate interest and potentiate the energy and resources of young Haitians.

The workshops will aim to provide practical experience to the participants, whether beginners or veterans in search of development: DJ, "tabletournisme", mixing rap, writing, Breakdance, Graffiti, Beatboxing, Videography Professionalization of the artist, painting.

The discussions offered at the symposium

will have a non-hierarchical structure. Which will give each participant an equal chance to express themselves without discrimination. Each discussion will be supervised by moderators from the local hip-hop community. Among other proposed topic: The history of hip-hop culture - The professionalization of local hip-hop - Hip-hop for social change - The role of women in hip-hop - Content and controversy in the hip-hop - Rap Kreyol movement - the place of hip-hop and its artists in the Haitian society and culture - Therapy with hip-hop - hip-hop generation as an engine of society - Heritage, tradition and legacy - The universality transgressive of hip-hop.

Hip-hop is primarily a celebration of life through music, poetry, dance and art. Since its inception, the hip-hop culture was mainly through the performance of its artists in the streets or on stage. For this reason, the symposium will be completed with two evenings of celebrations and performances of local and international artists.
