Haiti - Telecommunications : Towards the interconnection Digicel - Natcom

Thursday the Senate Commission of Public Works, Transport and Communications, presided by Senator Jean William Jeanty (Nippes) has auditioned Maarten Boute, CEO of Digicel, around the problem of interconnection between Digicel and the company National Communication (Natcom). The President of the commission indicated at the end of encounter that this meeting was intended to find a solution to this problem and to understand the difficulties in order to find a consensus between the various telecommunications players.

Another meeting will be organized soon according to Senator Jeanty, "One of the commitments we have achieved, is that to organize a meeting in order to find as quickly as possible a solution to the problem of interconnection", according to him the problems are both technical and commercial.

Mr. Boute has expressed the willingness of his company to realize the interconnection with the Natcom, but it is necessary to address the technical and commercial problems before. Affirming that the representatives of the Digicel are willing to participate to the new meeting and that the problem could be resolved quickly, within one week after that an agreement has been reached.

On September 25, during a meeting as part of this commission between the National Council of Telecommunications (Conatel) and the telephone company Digicel, Maarten Boute, had denied the allegations of the the Natcom, explaining that if the interconnection was not yet effective, this was due to technical differences due to bypass and a few trade disputes. He says that his company does not block the interconnection with Natcom, as the latter claims. Concerning the different commercial between the two companies, the CEO of Digicel explained that he negotiates in good faith "as in all the commercial negotiation, there is some disagreements on which we must find a agreement" without providing details about the nature of these different...

Right now the Natcom is only interconnected with Comcel/Voilà.
