Haiti - Cap-Haitien : $24M from USAID to modernize the land infrastructure of the Port

Tina Balin, Deputy Director a.i. of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for Latin America and the Caribbean, at the head of a delegation visited the Port of Cap-Haitien to testify of the commitment of the United States vis-à-vis Haiti.

She recalled that USAID, at the request of the Government of Haiti had accepted a revision of the specifications to modernize and improve land infrastructure to the tune of $24 million.

The objective of this modernization will allow more frequent and efficient exports from the Caracol Industrial Park, which currently pass through the Dominican Republic, due to greater reliability and security procedures for exports to the USA via the accelerated "Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism" system

The works, which will last 18 months, include a new administrative building of 760 m2 on one level; expanding and securing the container park; improving access to the bulk wharf and lighting. Installation of a new 1MW generator; a fresh water fire-fighting system; a new toilet block; the renovation of the harbor master's office; a new modular customs office; new access barriers, control booths, security fencing, cameras and solar perimeter lighting.
