Haiti - Arms trafficking : Order to remain in prison against Me Robinson Pierre Louis

Monday, July 25, 2022, in the case of the two arms and ammunition traffickers released 5 days after their arrests, the file of the Secretary General of the Federation of Bars of Haiti, Me Robinson Pierre-Louis, former member of the cabinet of the Minister of Justice Berto Dorcé, was heard at the Port-au-Prince Prosecutor's Office.

At the end of this hearing, Me Jacques Lafontant, Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince estimated on the basis of the report of the Office of Financial and Economic Affairs (BAFE) and the results of the hearing , that there were grounds for prosecution and referred the case to the investigating cabinet for legal action, with a order to remain in prison against Me Robinson Pierre-Louis who could be taken shortly to the prison of Port-au-Prince.

Let's recall that Me Pierre-Louis was arrested on July 22 the day after his dismissal from the Cabinet of the Minister hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37226-haiti-flash-arrest-of-the-secretary-general-of-the-federation-of-bars-of-haiti.html he is accused of having used his influence as a member of the cabinet of the Minister of Justice, to obtain the release of Fritz Jean Relus and Jonas Georges arrested for arms trafficking and ammunition in Port-de-Paix https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37108-haiti-flash-seizure-of-120-000-ammunition-me-michelet-virgile-releases-the-alleged-traffickers.html

An opinion that does not share the defenders of Me Pierre Louis who introduced on Monday a request for remsie in freedom in habeas corpus before Me Bernard Saint Vil who promised to issue his order as soon as possible.

For its part, the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) affirms, according to the information it says it has, that the release of Jonas Georges and Fritz Jean Relus by Me Michelet Virgile Commissioner of the Government of Port-au-Paix (revoked and arrested) "[...] was obtained following a juicy financial transaction valued at more than two hundred thousand (200,000) US dollars. According to people with whom the RNDDH spoke, several members of the judiciary in Port-de-Paix were sprayed."
