According to the Alliance for Risk Management and Business Continuity (AGERCA), Haiti over the past 20 years has been ranked among the three most vulnerable countries in the world to the adverse effects of global warming due in particular to its weak capacity to respond to natural disasters alongside Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Puerto Rico. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), between 1990 and 2016, Haiti was the country most affected in the Caribbean by major natural hazards : 3 droughts, 1 epidemic (cholera), 22 floods, 23 storms and/or hurricanes. Haiti suffered $53 billion in damage during this period, which represents 39% of the damage recorded in the entire Caribbean region.

A World Bank report published in 2014 establishes that the production accounting for 56% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Haiti is located in areas at risk and the recurring floods would cause an economic impact of around 2% of the GDP. In terms of the impact of environmental degradation, the average annual damage associated with tropical hurricanes is estimated by the Global Fund (for Disaster Reduction and Recovery) cost Haiti more than US$442 million per year ( analysis over 10 years).

AGERCA was created in 2008 with the aim of encouraging the private business sector to support the National Risk Management System. AGERCA works with companies and civil society organizations with the aim of strengthening their resilience to the various risks to which we are exposed.
